Maseru, Oct 1 (The Night’s Watch) – Prime Minister Thomas Thabane is headed to the National University of Lesotho (NUL) on Wednesday where he will lead sod turning for the construction of infrastructure for the upcoming African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games Maseru 2020.
According to the statement released by NUL today, the university was identified by the Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sport and Recreation as sports village for the Region 5 Youth Games.
The sod turning event is meant for the construction of halls of residence that will accommodate about 3000 athletes.
“The Ministry now invited the NUL Community to a sod-turning event scheduled to take place at NUL Roma on Wednesday 2nd October, 2019 at 10:00am at the Machabeng Grounds,” said NUL Registrar Liteboho Maqalika-Lerotholi in a statement to NUL community.
“The event will be graced by the presence of the Honourable Prime Minister. All members of the NUL community are invited to attend,” Lerotholi added.
On August 1, Thabane led the first sod turning event for the construction of an indoor sports complex and a covered 20,000 all-seated-stadium at Lepereng in Maseru.
These facilities which are expected to be handed over to the Regional Organizing Committee (ROC) by October 2020 are funded by the government of Lesotho to a tune of M2.4 billion. NW
