Maseru, Jan 16 (The Night’s Watch) – Police have launched manhunt for Prime Minister Thomas Thabane’s wife, First Lady ‘Maesaiah Thabane, who evaded arrest last Friday.

“This person is wanted for case C/S 40 (1) and 22 of Penal Code Act No.6 of 2010. If seen, please inform the nearest police station or police headquarters,” police said in a wanted notice issued on Wednesday.

On Wednesday police issued a wanted poster for First Lady’s arrest after she evaded arrest last Friday.

‘Maesaiah evaded arrest last Friday after she refused to report to the police who had summoned her for questioning in the 2017 killing of Thabane’s former wife, Lipolelo Thabane.

Lipolelo was shot dead by unknown assailants as she was about to drive into her Ha ‘Masana home on 14 June 2017. The incident occurred just two days before Thabane’s inauguration as prime minister.

She was involved in a legal battle with Thabane’s youngest wife ‘Maesaiah over who should be first lady and the courts ruled in her favour.

Lipolelo was also involved in a bitter divorce battle with Thabane at the time of her murder.

Police on Friday obtained an arrest warrant for the first lady after she did not report to them.

When police raided the State House on Friday evening, she was reportedly nowhere to be found, she had vanished into thin air.

Police have labelled her “a fugitive from justice”.

Evading arrest is an offence punishable by imprisonment.

First lady has filed an application in the High Court seeking the cancellation of the arrest warrant. The case has been postponed to Tuesday. NW
