Mafeteng, Feb 19 (The Night’s Watch) – Famo musician, Lehlohonolo Maketsi, popularly known as Mahlanya, has set a national record after his video for the legendary Nakeng Tsa Poho became first Lesotho music video to hit a million views on YouTube.
Nakeng Tsa Poho is the most viewed Lesotho music video on the platform.
It currently boats over 1, 002 600 views (and counting), an achievement no Mosotho has achieved.
The world’s most popular online video community, YouTube, was launched in 2005 and allows billions of people to discover, watch and share videos.
The Night’s Watch reported last November that Mahlanya, the former St John’s High School student, was the most viewed Lesotho artist on the platform across all of his uploaded videos.
Nakeng Tsa Poho was uploaded on June 23, 2013.
In November last year, one of Mahlanya’s hits, Malebela, had over 650 000 views.
Malebela now sits at over 724,000 views. It has garnered over 74,000 views in the past three months. It was uploaded on YouTube on November 20, 2016.
Another of Mahlanya’s hits, Sello sena (Liheshe thola), from the album Labenya 3 now sits at over 531,000 views, up by over 51,000 views from November’s 480,000 streams.
As Mahlanya’s video becomes Lesotho’s first to surpass 1 million YouTube streams, Basotho are excited to see what records local artists will break next.
Juvy oa Lepimpara’s K’hotho video, featuring Megahertz and Honye, currently sits at over 269,000 views. The video was uploaded 10 months ago, on April 16, last year.
The first South African music video to surpass 1 million views was Caracara in 2014, about seven months after its release.
Caracara now sits at over 4.2 million views on YouTube.
It is the second solo single by rapper K.O featuring Kid X, released by Cashtime Life on March 3, 2014.
