Maseru, Nov 21 (The Night’s Watch) – The world football governing body, FIFA, President, Gianni Infantiano is expected to visit the country next week Tuesday in what will be his first-ever visit to Lesotho.

“The Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) is proud to announce that FIFA President Gianni Infantino will visit Lesotho on Tuesday 26th, November 2019,” LeFA said in a statement on Wednesday.

LeFA is the national administrative governing body that controls the sport of football in Lesotho and is a member of both Confederation of African Football and FIFA.

It said this will be the first time that Infantino visited the Mountain Kingom since his election as the FIFA president.

“This visit is a sign of the cordial relations that exist between the Lesotho Football Association and the global sporting fraternity, particularly with FIFA as the global football authority,” LeFA said.

Infantiano is a Swiss-Italian national who was elected as president on February 26, 2016 during an extraordinary session of the FIFA Congress and he was re-elected as FIFA president on June 5, 2019.

He replaced Sepp Blatter who served as FIFA President for over three terms.

Blatter made a historic visit to Lesotho in April 2002 and was a guest of honour at the COSAFA Cup games between Lesotho and Mozambique which Lesotho lost 0-2.

While in the country, Blatter also cut the ribbon at the opening of the Bambata Tšita Sports Arena in Maseru, which was largely funded under the FIFA goal project. NW
