The South African (SA) DOWNHILL National Championships have been moved from the Western Cape to Afriski in Lesotho, Cycling South Africa announced on Wednesday.
The championships have been scheduled to be played from May 4 to 5, 2019.
Cycling South Africa is the governing body for cycling in South Africa.
It said in a statement on Wednesday: “Due to unforeseen technical circumstances, the National Championship round has been moved from the Western Cape to Afriski Lesotho with the following date changes:
• 4-5 May 2019: SA National Championships / Round 2 – SA Cup Series DH – Afriski, Lesotho.”
It said the new event date will combine with the current Round No. 2 of the SA National Cup Series at Afriski Resort.
Lesotho is ranked second in Africa in the mountain bike discipline only behind South Africa.
Its numerous achievements also include having local star Tumelo Makae based full-time at the International Cycling Union (UCI) World Cycling Centre (WCC) in Aigle, Switzerland.
